At the West Maui Kumuwai launch at Hanakaoo Beach Park, volunteers planted more than 1,000 native plants to reduce soil runoff into nearby coastal waters.
The planting event, which took , the day after World Oceans Day, brought together a collaboration of community members, nonprofits, private sector companies, and government partners. If you pass the once barren slope, its now dotted with native plants, beautifying the historic site and reducing the amount of runoff reaching the ocean via Wahikuli Gulch, which can have a negative affect on nearby coral reefs.
